Leaving Muscat and heading west into the arid deserts of Oman, you’ll quickly realise how expansive this country is. Head to Jebel Akhdar for stunning views and marvel at the canyons form the beautiful Anantara Jebel Akhdar resort. If you prefer a more nomadic experience, then stop by one of the desert camps for an unforgettable experience under the stars. The central region is also home to the Nizwa Fort, Wadi Arbayeen and the Omani Grand Canyon. Temperatures in the summer can be very hot, so these regions are best visited in the cooler months of October to March.
Heading south, Salalah’s lush green landscape offers a completely different perspective. A short flight from Muscat or Dubai, you’ll find Salalah to be a contrast to the capital with a pleasant mix of rural life along the coast. The peninsular of Zighy Bay is also a part of Oman and is best accessed from Dubai. A 90 minute drive across three Emirates and you’ll be on the Omani border. Here at Zighy Bay, you’ll find the secluded Six Senses resort, designed in traditional Omani style. Muslim Friendly Amenities
Oman is a Muslim majority country, so finding halal food and amenities is quite easy. All the hotels serve halal food, and some hotels such as the City Seasons Muscat has a no-alcohol policy. In the city of Muscat, there are plenty of mosques including the iconic Sultan Qaboos Mosque which is definitely worth visiting. Alcohol can be requested to be removed from hotel rooms and in restaurants, food items are generally well labelled clearly. Enjoy the delicious local Omani cuisine in the restaurants of Mutrah in Muscat or more international fare at one of the resorts.
You can fly to Oman on several airlines including Oman Air, Emirates and Etihad which all serve halal meals onboard as standard. Other carriers such as British Airways and Lufthansa are also available with Muslim meals available on request at least 36 hours in advance. Oman Air flies direct to Muscat from both London and Manchester in the UK as well as routes to other European cities along with Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur in Asia.
