Starting from the north of the country, Tangier is the gateway to Morocco if you’re combining a trip to Spain with Morocco. The ferry from Algeciras arrives into Tangier port where you can start your trip. As connections from Tangier are limited, we would recommend arriving into Fes, Casablanca or Marrakech.
Being a Muslim country, Morocco is very accessible for Muslims travellers. Restaurants and cafes all serve halal food, and you’ll find most restaurants away from the tourist areas don’t serve alcohol either. With mosques at what seems like almost every mile, you’ll find plenty of places to pray during your stay. If you’re travelling during Ramadan, Morocco can be a unique experience with the whole country observing the month. If you’re invited to a Moroccan iftar, then don’t miss out. A typical iftar can sometimes be quite lengthy with many courses so be prepared!
If you only have a few days, then head to Marrakech where you can get a taste of Morocco with its bustling Jemma El Fna. The famous square comes alive after Maghrib, which you can pray at the nearby Koutoubia mosque. From fresh orange juice stalls to spice markets, the weird and wonderful sights of Jemma El Fna is a must on any Marrakech itinerary, just make sure you find your way out of the medina! The square is also a great place to sample some Moroccan cuisine, you’ll find over fifty stalls, just pick one that is busy with locals and you can enjoy a thrifty dinner.
